Up early, but Sav the owner of the hotel, kindly arranged for us a full fried breakfast at 0700, the perfect start to the day. Practice day here we come. We left the briefing at 0830, just as it started to pour with rain, with 20 mins to get the car warmed up, off the trailer an on to the very wet track. Luckily by 1000, the rain stopped and the sun came out to dry the track. By 1030 when we were on the track, there was a dry line, but we were hit by a little disaster. Coming up the main straight, foot hard down on the gas, 3rd gear let go !!!!!! End of the weekend for sure.
The time was now 1100 on Saturday morning, we were 450 miles from home, in the middle of nowhere, with a broken car. Frantically we started calling people, trying to find someone nearby who might have a new gearbox, a very tall order.
1145 - Callum at Checkpoint to the rescue. He was some 70 miles away in Dundee, but it was our best option. Will, Alex from AF Racing and whoever else was standing nearby were left with Project Moff up on a trailer and the mammouth task of trying to remove a gearbox.
1400 - New gearbox was back, old gearbox had been removed, we had just over 2 hours to get the box back in to be allowed out on the last session of the day, which we missed literally by a few mins, but still an amazing feat I think you will all agree the fact the box was changed at the track. We had to make do with a test drive up and down the local roads to check the new box was ok.
