This is going to be a bit of a big up date....
3 things covered in this update
- Continuation of the restoration
- Chopping out the spare wheel well
- Weighing of standard items in search of weigh reduction
1.We have spent a good few late evenings and weekends continuing with the restoration. What we thought was going to be a 'relatively simple' job, looks like it is going to be a great deal more involved.
The more paint we removed, the more surface rust was uncovered. So, we decided to entirely strip the back of the car, including the rear bumper mounting brackets
2.
From the pictures of the back of Project Moff, you can see the spare wheel well is starting to suffer with some rust. As part of future plans to create a rear diffuser to help aerodynamics, we did some experimenting on a Skyline we were breaking (Junior to be precise), and cut out the spare wheel well
It actually proved easier that we first imagined
3.
As part of the ever ending quest for weight reduction, whilst we were stripping another Skyline, we took the opportunity to weigh some of the items, being quite surprised by the results
16.0kg - Standard Fuel tank 29.7kg - Standard door (EACH, complete with glass and electrics) 4.8 kg - This was the sound proofing behind the dash ! 20.1kg - Heater matrix, fans, air con controls 5.8 kg - The boot floor we cut from Junior 20.1 kg - This is a complete Skyline loom from front to rear (we think we could save 10kg by stripping the loom) 16.5 kg - Standard Bootlid, with spoiler, light and gas struts 2.8 kg - This is the battery cable running from the battery in the boot, to the front of the car. 24.0kg - Standard seats (EACH!!) 18.0kg - Pair of Standard Front Discs 13.4kg - Pair of Standard Rear Discs 13.4kg - Standard Complete Prop 9.7kg - Front Subframe
As you can see, a huge amount of weight yet to be saved !
